There are many customizable steps to breast augmentation, allowing you to choose various aspects that will contribute to the end result. We’ve outlined some of the main options below.
Breast Implants
For implants, you can choose from the following:
- Silicone Implants: Breast implants made of silicone gel. These feel similar to natural breast tissue.
- Saline Implants: Breast implants with a silicone shell that are filled with sterile salt water.
Incision Locations
Although different surgeons utilize different incisions, Dr. Aly prefers an inframammary approach. This technique creates the incision along the lower breast crease. Dr. Aly prefers the inframammary technique because it is associated with fewer complications, especially capsular contracture, which is the hardening of tissue around the implant.
Implant Placements
Your implants can be placed below or above the pectoral muscle:
- Submuscular: Under the pectoral muscle.
- Subglandular: Over the pectoral muscle.
Breast Implant Profile
The best breast implant profile will depend on your body frame and your desired results:

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?
Breast augmentation is performed under anesthesia to ensure comfort and safety throughout the procedure. Dr. Aly will make incisions in the inframammary crease, allowing him to insert the selected implants (silicone or saline). A breast “pocket” will be made in the chest wall, creating space for the implants to be placed. Dr. Aly will position the implants under (submuscular) or over (subglandular) the pectoral muscles. The breast skin will be firmly positioned over the implants, and the incisions will be closed once all adjustments have been completed.
Dr. Aly does not use drains and infiltrates the surgical area with a very effective and longer-lasting local anesthetic. This anesthetic can last 48–72 hours, greatly reducing pain from the surgery. This is combined with a non-narcotic pain control regimen, which patients are very happy with during recovery.
At the end of the procedure, your breasts are NOT bandaged, and you may or may not use a bra, depending on your preference. Dr. Aly does not use internal stitches to close the incisions and applies glue to the outside. Breast augmentation typically takes one to one and a half hours, depending on the specific details of the procedure.

What Is Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?
Every patient will deal with recovery differently, as everyone’s body has its own unique healing process. After breast augmentation, patients can expect to feel some pain and discomfort, as the breasts will be sore while adapting to the implants. Dr. Aly’s pain control regimen (mentioned above) tremendously improves the postoperative experience, making it easier for patients to get back to their normal lives more quickly than in the past. Patients are generally encouraged to get up and do most things that they do in daily life the evening after surgery and to do most things that they need to do, with a few exceptions, the next day.
Wearing a compression bra for Dr. Aly’s patients is optional, depending on the patient’s comfort. Dr. Aly will also provide extensive aftercare instructions in both written and video format.

What Can I Expect From My Breast Augmentation Results?
It will take some time to see your full breast augmentation results due to initial swelling during recovery. Patients can expect the final look and feel of their breasts once they “mature” and “settle” into their intended position on the chest. Many patients are able to see their final breast augmentation results three to six months after surgery.
