Below, we’ve broken down three of the most popular breast lift options so you can determine which one may be best for your needs.
Donut or Periareolar Incision
The donut incision gets its nickname as it encircles the areola. This breast lift technique typically produces the least amount of scarring; however, it is best suited for women who only need to address a mild degree of sagging or asymmetry.
Lollipop Lift
For a lollipop lift, Dr. Aly will make an incision that encircles the areola (similar to the donut incision), and the incision will continue vertically down to the breast crease. This option has more scarring than the donut technique but less than the anchor technique. The lollipop lift is often suitable for patients experiencing moderate breast ptosis.
Anchor Incision
The anchor breast lift technique involves the most scarring due to the size and location of the incisions. Dr. Aly will create the incision starting around the areola, continuing vertically down to the breast crease, and ending horizontally underneath at the breast crease. The anchor incision allows for significant adjustments to be made to the breasts and is an excellent option for women experiencing severe breast sagging.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
Details for your specific breast lift procedure can be found in your customized treatment plan, designed by Dr. Aly. However, you can expect some of the following foundational steps to be included in your procedure.
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, ensuring optimal patient comfort throughout the procedure. Dr. Aly will create incisions in the agreed-upon locations (donut, lollipop, or anchor). Once the incisions are made, Dr. Aly will adjust the underlying breast tissue, sculpting the desired breast shape. The breast skin will be repositioned over the newly shaped breasts and will be firmly draped over the region. Any excess breast skin will be trimmed to eliminate sagging. If necessary, the nipple-areolar complex will also be lifted (and resized if desired) to complement the breasts’ new position.
Once all the selected adjustments have been finished, Dr. Aly will close the incisions and apply glue to the skin. Dr. Aly does not use drains, wrapping, or bandages.
What Is Breast Lift Recovery Like?
During breast lift recovery, you can expect to experience some swelling, redness, soreness, and discomfort. Pain is controlled by a combination of long-lasting (48 to 72 hours) local anesthetic at the time of surgery and a number of non-narcotic medications. Dr. Aly’s pain control regimen is very effective in reducing discomfort after surgery, with the majority of patients not requiring the use of narcotics. Dr. Aly also prefers not to use compression garments after surgery and generally has patients use a comfortable front-opening bra.
Strenuous physical activity (including exercise, lifting heavy objects, etc.) will need to be stopped during recovery. Prioritize rest and take short walks throughout the day. Dr. Aly will also provide you with aftercare and recovery instructions, which will include details on how to care for your healing incisions and information regarding activity restrictions.
